IC-100, IC-200 and IC-700 are recommended. Each course takes about three hours to complete, at the end of which you are invited to take a short test and qualify for a certificate. The certificates are useful if you wish to take local training programs, some of which require ICS certification as prerequisites.

The courses are valuable, particularly ICS-100. The course material can be used in organizing virtually any activity from weddings to changing a light bulb. Government emergency responders take these courses, and if you are familiar with the subject material, you will be on the same playing field if you need to contact a fireman or police officer in times of emergency.

Local courses are held from time to time, or you can take the courses on-line. Be patient with the on-line courses, you may find the keyboard instructions a bit daunting at first. Once you are in the course, the program runs smoothly.
