Thank you for your inquiry regarding CERT Radio. The Hamilton Wireless
Association, an Amateur Radio club located at Hamilton Field in Novato,
hosts quarterly examinations for the Amateur Radio License. Our next
examination is this next Saturday, August 14 at 1:00pm. There are three
levels of Amateur License, Technician, General and Extra. The first level
is Technician. Multiple choice questions are administered in a closed-book
examination for each of the license levels. A $15.00 fee is charged to take
any or all of the examinations. If you don't pass an examination, you can
retake the test the same day for an additional $15.00.

Members of CERT or MMRC (Marin Medical Reserve Corps.) are invited to
participate in a license preparation class that starts at 9:00am on the same
day of the examination. The cost of the license class is $25.00 which
includes the $15.00 examination feel. We issue study material in order to
prepare you for taking the Technician class examination. As part of the
license class, we also ask you to participate in the CERT Radio
Communications Class program which is held in four sessions on Thursday
evenings from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. The Communication Class sessions are held
continuously.

Plan on attending the following Thursday evening Communication Class
sessions after you have obtained your Amateur license. By then you will
hopefully also be able to pick up a radio and participate with the group.
Since all but the first sessions are heavily oriented toward radio practice,
you'll benefit if you can use your radio in the classes. We'll provide
information regarding how to obtain a radio at the license class.

The exam will be held at Hamilton as scheduled. The clubhouse can be
difficult to find. Enclosed are instructions. You might also visit our
website at http://www.k6bw.org. Practice tests are listed there, as well as
a map to the clubhouse.

Building 549 is located in the Coast Guard Housing section at Hamilton. A
map can be found at our clubhouse site http://www.k6bw.org. Here are
summary instructions:

Hamilton Field is located north of San Rafael in Novato. Take the Hamilton
Field/Nave Drive Exit from Highway 101. If you are traveling from the
south, continue on Nave Drive through one stoplight until you reach the
Hamilton Field Main Gate. Turn right into Hamilton onto Main Gate Drive. If
you are traveling from the north, take the Hamilton Field exit and turn
right and take the overpass over Highway 101. Take the first right and
continue down the frontage road (Nave Drive) through two stoplights until
you reach the Hamilton Field Main Gate. Turn left into Hamilton onto Main
Gate Drive.

Continue on Main Gate Drive through one stoplight until you pass over a
white bridge. On the other side of the bridge, take the next right to
Crescent Dr. Drive a short block over another smaller bridge, then turn
right again to enter the Coast Guard Housing Area. Continue on Crescent
until you spot a large palm tree and a wye in the road. Turn left, and
continue up a small incline to San Jose Dr. Turn left again onto San Jose
Dr. On the right you will see a small driveway with a white sign marked
Building 549. Take the driveway to the top of the hill and to the
clubhouse.
