Winlink is a digital communications method. The following was found in a
discussion regarding emergency communications preparedness:
to quote extracts from a note today from K7KEV:
"No one's talking about a world-wide melt-down of the Internet. However,
local and regional outages happen regularly, like here in Oregon. Example:
In the last two years at least three towns in Oregon have lost ALL
communications (except amateur radio) for up to 3 days! For 36 hours not
even the State Police knew one town was flooded (roads out & no hams.)
Em-comm is real here."
"A Winlink server could be the life-line to a community devastated by a 9.2
earthquake and giant Tsunami (predicted to happen here in NW Oregon some
time soon.) If we survive, it would sure be nice to count on...."
What we practice is what we will do in an emergency.
