Hi Amy,
Please accept my apologies for not updating your e-mail address sooner. I
thought it had been done some time ago.
In a nutshell, the objectives of the Communications class are as follows:
1. Acquire and know how to configure your radio.
a. Know how to keep it operating with use of spare batteries and other
power sources.
b. Know how to configure the radio and change radio frequencies.
c. Become familiar with expected range and how radio propagation affects
communications.
2. Learn and participate in a radio network (net).
a. Acquire familiarity with operating as a net control operator.
b. Participate in a net using "clear text" protocol.
3. Practice the skill to transfer 3rd party messages.
a. Use of a standard message protocol
b. Use of a standard information reporting protocol.
4. Apply these skills as a backup resource in effective neighborhood
communications.
We meet weekly to discuss these topics and gain skills through practice. As
our experience builds, we are increasingly using on-air practice originating
from our neighborhoods.
