[MarinTeams] PSK31 Radio

I have e-mailed Dave to get some clarification on these points. We still
need to solve the problem of an antenna tuner for any unit which we build.
The ready built units on the market are more expensive than the radio we
plan to build so I suspect we need to build a tuner as well. Peter Bland -

It looks like the Warbler (80 meter version) is available again. :^) It
wasn't at the beginning of the year. It is a direct-conversion receiver.
Two crystals (transmit and receive) set the operating frequency and 8
additional crystals are used in two filters (transmit and receive) also at
its operating frequency. All fine if the crystals are inexpensive ($1) TV
color crystals. Not so good if the crystals cost $10+ each to move the unit
to an assigned MARS frequency. I looked, but couldn't find inexpensive
crystals on the right frequency.

$50 is a great price, though. The design is straightforward, no surprises.
Also, would the crystal filter be too narrow for MT-63 or is the receiver
bandwidth 3KHz+ wide? Believe it is ok.

This is a great option if MARS crystals could be found. Otherwise, the 40
or 20 meter units are attractive if $100 is in your budget for just the
transceiver. Think the filter is set at a fixed IF frequency and operating
frequencies are controlled by either a single crystal, or one each for
transmit and receive (don't recall which). Wonder if changes in coils and
new crystals could bring the $100 receiver to 80 meters?

Assumption #1 is 80 meters is a favored band for local (statewide)
communications. Have had good luck on 40 meters in the morning with a Rock
Mite, however.

I have downloaded the information on the WA7JHZ radio and I will try
pricing
the parts. Maybe I am misreading the Small Wonders information, but they
appear to offer an 80M radio for $45 (board assembly only) and a 20M radio
for $100. If you are correct, that they have discontinued the 80M radio,
I
am quite happy to build a 20M radio. Most of the contacts I make on PSK31
are on 20M anyway. I will try calling them tomorrow to see what the story
  is. Regards, Peter
