Zack,
What are the frequencies of those beacons in Chicago?

I got a late start, partly because I forgot my 2m transverter last
night (which was in a storage space I rent). I had to wait till they
opened at 6 am to fetch it.
I got set up around 8:30 am and listened for the 903, 1296 and 2304
beacons in Chicago. At that time they were all pinning my s-meter. I
took that as a good sign. I then managed to finally contact AF4JF and
N5MU in St. Louis on 10 GHz. We were unable to work on 1296. That was
a little after 9 am. I tried working KO0Z on 10 GHz with no luck,
either.
I then pointed my antennas north and worked N9LB on 902 and 1296. We
tried 2304. I could hear him just fine but he couldn't hear me. He
suspected a blown FET in his preamp. I also worked WB8BZK/R on 1296
when he was in two different grids. Meanwhile, Lloyd had replaced the
FET and suspected a bad T/R relay, so we tried working again on 2304
with him switching from transmit to receive by moving the antenna
connector between transmit and receive. We were able to work on 2304.
I was his first QSO ever on that band!
The bands deteriorated later in the morning. By 10:30 AM I could not
hear the 2304 beacon and the 902 and 1296 beacons had settled to just
above the noise.
I could've tried to work you, Danny. I forgot you were out there. I
could've pointed my antennas your way. Hopefully next time!
Notably missing this morning were W9ZIH, K2DRH and W9SNR. I asked a
couple people in the Chicago area and no one had had heard any of them
today.
