[MAMS] Hepburn troop forecast

Hi Dave,

I got set up on a hilltop in EN60af this morning at about 6:30 am CDT. I
listened around on 2m and heard the WD9BGA beacon very strong and a new one
I'd never heard before - N9SS/B on 144.275 in EN50es. I called you and
K8TQK on 144.135 and 144.200 and heard nothing. I heard nothing at all on
144 MHz anywhere other than the beacons I noted.

I listened for the K9MOT beacon in EN52 on 1296 and didn't hear it. I
listened for the St. Louis beacon on 10368.900 and thought I heard it in
and out of the noise at 6:30, but it rapidly disappeared completely. I
tried to work AF4JF and K0PFX who were in EM48sq in St. Louis, on 10 GHz.
We had no luck.

So this morning was a washout and the tropo that was predicted didn't seem
to materialize for me anyway. Maybe next time.

I haven't been up to the hill in the area of EN50xf/EN60af in a while. They
are building wind generators in that area now. Hopefully they won't be a
deterrent to signals. I suspect that hill is not the greatest place for
microwave operation anyway except maybe for rainscatter. But I can get
there quickly.

I'll be on the big hill in EN50rl for the ARRL UHF contest on Sunday from 6
or 7 am CDT through contest end. Maybe we'll have some tropo then. I can
always hope.

73, Zack W9SZ
