Hello to the group,
I took off work to drive out to Garth's - W0GR qth on Friday 10th of June
and arrived there
at Odessa, MO. (EM38ax) at 12:00 noon. The reason to visit Garth was to help
fix his 5.7G
tower problem (high return loss). After lunch I climbed the 4 legged 60 ft.
windmill tower and
took off the waveguide transition and replace it with a waveguide termination.
Found about
3 or 4 oz.'s of water trapped in the waveguide to "N" connector because of the
gasket used.
The return loss reading was still not good but it was better.
These pictures are taken by Randy - WB0JQQ and I hope they are attached to this
e-mail.
Also found water in the 0.375" super-flex rotor piece that went to the Dish and
uW transition.
This was on Friday and the rest of the help party would be coming on Saturday
morning by
Randy - WB0JQQ, Phil - N0PB and Ed - N0DAG. Randy had parts to fix or replace
the
0.375 super-flex with 0.5 super-flex so we had to wait for Saturday to come.
After about 10 climbs to the top of this tower and the help of everyone, we
replaced two
flexible waveguide sections to make it work again. If Randy had not the right
parts or Garth
having the two correct lenghts of flexible WG, he would still be off the
air.....
It was a great time to visit with everyone and to leave with a good feeling that
it worked again!
I left Garth's place at 10:20 pm and drove as far as I could and stopped at a
rest area and fell
asleep for three hours and continued to drive straight to the Egytion Hamfest.
What a weekend!
73,
Dave - KB0PE
