I got a later start than I originally planned. I got set up in EN50rl
by about 9:30 am CDT. Worked Jim W9SNR who was in EN62cc on 1296
through 10368. Signals were not what they typically are for us on this
path. 3456 seemed to be our best band. We just squeaked by through the
noise on 10368.
I called Bob K8TQK up and left a message and he returned my call. We
managed to work on 1296 but nothing heard in either direction on 2304.
I also tried on 1296 with Dave KB0PE who was in EM48ts, I think.
Nothing heard either way on that band.
Conditions seemed to be on the poor side. Jim W9SNR headed off to
Kenosha WI to try to work some of the Michigan gang across the lake. I
don't know how that turned out.
I WAS hearing the K3SIW beacon on 1296 fairly consistently about S4 or
so. Strange that it had a good signal on that band. I couldn't hear
the 2304 beacon which I sometimes can.
I'll be in the ARRL June VHF contest next weekend from the same hill.
I hope for better conditions.
73, Zack W9SZ
