Hi Jack,
Going into winter the weather will make MAD somewhat difficult for us
rovers. I have a location I go which is the top of a parking garage at a
local mall. This is only a two story garage but the mall is located on high
ground and I have a very good view to the west. I have used this location
to work Brad down in KY 146 miles southwest. It would be worth a shot to
try your direction on 2-meter SSB then move up from there.
We will have to coordinate a MAD to give this a try.

Hi Mike,
I live in Urbana, IL. I don't have any microwave antennas at home, though,
so I usually go to a nearby hill. There is a great hill about 45 miles from
where I live, in EN50rl. It's about 10 miles west of Gibson City, IL.
We should be able to work. I've worked K8TQK from there a few times and I've
worked Milwaukee, which is 240 miles away, up through 2304 fairly often. I
also once worked W9SNR, who was in Port Washington WI, through 10 GHz from
that hill.
I go up there fairly often on skeds to work people on microwave bands.
During the week I can get up there and be set up by 7 am Central time, and
can stay till 8 am when I need to pack up and go to work. On weekends I
often have more time available. Microwave Activity Day (MAD) is the first
Saturday morning of every month. It's a time when we can get on the air and
make some QSO's (or try to). It's not a contest or anything. But it usually
gets put on hold during the winter as it's harder to operate portable then.
I'll have to miss MAD tomorrow, I'm afraid.
