I ran into this web site today in a LOWFER bounce. It was interesting to
see that the Maritime Radio Historical Society was formed to maintain and
operate the old KPH maritime commercial radio station within a national
park. Kind of like the radio clubs that operate from lighthouse stations in
other parks.

I also read in their newsletter #101 about an annual crypto event they run
in August each year. They create a simulated WW2 message and run it through
an Enigma machine then transmit the resulting coded message over the radio.
The event challenge is to copy the code groups then decode the message
using partial information from a supposed German code book.

" ...160 decodes were submitted for verification. Of that number there were
141 successful decodes..... Noteworthy is that one station used an
original World War 2 era ENIGMA machine. Eleven other stations used replica
ENIGMA machines. This is of particular interest in that for the 2022 ENIGMA
cryptography event only two stations used replica machines. Most
participants used one of the several simulators that are available on the
Internet or as standalone apps."

Check their web page for full event info and past newsletters.

We don't call it "tinkering," we call it "technical assessment."

Percussive Maintenance means hit it with a hammer until the problem goes
away.

Don't put it down, put it away....
