 Hi JB:  SM5BMZ has a youtube video where he compares home made e-probe and active loop antennas, which is full of good-to-know info.  He made the loop from wide copper flashing and the J310  + follower preampis on an open breadboard that is easy to see the layout.  He does some orthogonal antenna combiming with interesting results.  Also note the effect of having the loop 1 meter above ground vs on-ground (capacitance issue) and his common mode choke usage results....
