Some months ago I was able to diagnose why my WJ-340 digital display
would go intermittent 99% of the time. WJ for some really stupid reason
decided to use some IC DIP sockets that are simply not capable of
holding an IC in place and provide a good electrical contact to each
pin. Imagine a DIP socket, twice as high as a normal molded plastic
socket but with no plastic. It's an all air frame type socket and the
IC's simply come loose in no time flat esp with slight vibration.
Anyway, knowing that I gently pressed all the IC's in the display
section back in place and carefully put the rig back together. Tonight
as a test I tuned my loop (which I think I fixed also) to 198 kHz and am
currently listening to BBC-4. No SAM but still sounds nice on AM. What
is neat is this receiver has no issues with WOWO (50kW) just 10-15 miles
away where as my SDR's do...sunset was just an hour or two ago and it
was so neat to hear the top of the hour clock "beeps" and voices
starting to come through.

Light travels faster than sound....
This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
