Apart from a few days in the deepest depths of winter dx on MW and LW has between pretty poor in 2023 –
There are days, nay weeks where the iono just isn’t supporting dx at all – certainly the worst Ive seen here since I starting looking around 2001 from here in Alaska (off and on!) The uptick in Geo/El Sol and higher flux numbers means the iono just doesn’t appear to cool down till well after midnight ; no listening to San Antonio Spurs games on 1200kHz at dusk on the drive home from work –or traffic reports from Sacramento at 9+20 on 1500 etc
I tuned into Iceland on 189 last night and saw the carrier nice and stable for a while then started exhibiting Polar Au doppler later in the evening. Didn’t look for the R4 Beeb, but its never strong here.
As we get more sunlight the higher VLF signals are doing their seasonal fading – DHO38 on 23.4kHz is sliding in to the noise at times where as in December is was one of the strongest signals over the Pole -
Havent listened to Cricket on Radio 4 198 for years ☹
Using an “Eprobe” up a tree and underwater (ice) Beverages across a lake (mudhole)

I have heard RUV from Iceland and the BBC but not this season. I am using a low noise vertical whip.
