John
Thanks for the note ... sorry to hear about Mike. We swapped many an e mail at the time. Also among the missing in that 'family portrait' is IP ... Louis passed away several years ago ... and of course WA. Would be nice to see the wattering hole fill up like that again. Believe I still have my mil spec RG-11 loop ... somewhere.
R.I.P. Mike.

I noticed in the latest QST that Mike Staines, WM1KE (formerly WA1PTC)
had passed away. Not sure when.
Mike was very active with the Lowfer community in the early 2000s. He
ran a sequence of LF beacons, PTC, PI and TMO, the last being the best
known. I can recall Mike's travails in keeping TMO from wandering in
frequency and clobbering Jay's VD beacon. The classic screenshot from
2002 by W3NF shows the issue:

Mike was originally near Concord, NH, and then moved to upper NY state,
where for a time, he ran an inn. He was good friends with Bill Ashlock,
and took much antenna advice from Bill. As many of us slogged through
various weak-signal modes, Mike was quick to ask questions and report
results.
Just thought that some mention should be made here.
