Unfortunately Paul W1VLF's VLF experiments didn't last long ... however I did manage to receive his transmissions which wasn't much of a feat at 3 miles. I've also received an EbNaut message from W4DEX at about 600 miles and a carrier from K7PO at about 1500 miles. Currently no stations are transmitting in the the US (that I'm aware of), however VO1NA is on continuous, with either a carrier or EbNaut transmission, barring weather and equipment related difficulties.

There was a Ham, W1VLF that was experimenting on 9 khz.

Is it still legal to transmit below 9khz, or is it now 8.3khz you have to
be under? Are only people in Europe currently doing this?
