[Lowfer] What's your experience using a LoG antenna on LF

Hi all:

The subject line is the question. I haven't tried this before. It appears right down my alley of " Cheap and Simple ".
Another question for those who have used one is; " Square vs Rectangular shape - any difference ? ".
I can easily lay out a 50 X 50 Square, or a 50 wide X 100 long Rectangle in my back yard. 
I would like enough loop to negate the need for a Preamp. 
This is a good starting point, and I thank any and all who care to comment.
