I’m not sure I can trust the home brew antenna ammeter at the low end of the scale, but the 0.6/0.9 A difference it shows would be -3.5 dB for this year’s setup. That would square with your guess. Despite its age, the “RG-8” was a custom cable in 1947, made with a pretty dense tinned braided shield. That braid, if fairly intact, is probably better than all but RG214 these days.
