[Lowfer] Phishing Scam

Those of you who are also regular readers of the LWCA Message Board will
already be aware of this, but someone spoofing my name on a gmail return
address was asking people who are on the LowFER and HiFER beacon lists to
spend money on "my" behalf and email them hundreds of dollars worth of
iTunes card numbers...maybe other things too, for all I know.

I've actually been out of email contact for the past week and had only
limited access to the message board, so I'm just now learning the extent
of it. Fortunately, Google appears to have shut down the offending gmail
account.

And FWIW, there doesn't appear to be any hacking, trojans, or other
malware involved--just old-fashioned low tech skullduggery by manual
means, finding a community of people, identifying someone most of them
might trust, and temporarily sticking his identity on a throwaway email
account to solicit goods or services under false pretenses. (An online
search shows other names associated with that return address, too, so we
weren't the only ones being targeted.)
