#22 might be too big to fit with the number of turns involved. #30 would be a better fit. Have cores / wire handy here and would be glad to send a 'care package'.

I had an incredibly over-elaborate response here, but with your 
description, and finding instructions for a kit that matches, with 
pictures (Kits and Part 10W Linear), I'm pretty sure I can figure this 
one out, by focusing on the turns, and skipping the math, at this 
point.  I found a source for binocular cores, and 22 awg red and green 
wire.  This may be a good chance for me to learn, I gave up around 
1993.  If I screw it up, I'll get back to you.
