Laurence & All:    After looking at the visual results Laurence experienced, it seems plausible I had a weak in & out of noise detection of SAQ, similar to how I see

WM partial traces on 185.3 when SIW is good visual copy.... BFO set at 500 Hz and QRSS1 mode in Spectran.  E-probe to 300Hz LPF to 17.2 kHz bridge tee diplexer to

ZFY-1-S level 23 mixer....3.0MHz IF

Just afterwards I tuned up to NWC at 19.8 and the 100Hz MSK signal was 10 dB out of the noise or better. I see a similar level currently for NWC on the KL7L VLF
grabber. 

This VLF rx session is very encouraging. I never have received NWC that well prior to the added grounding improvements to the e-probe (two added ground rods in french drain pit) and the 17.2 kHz diplexer between the LPF and mixer...

I threw the diplexer together last  night using a 470uH molded choke and a parallel pair of .1uf poly film caps that were more like 9.5 vs 10nF meassured. (XL and Xc 50 ohms at 17.2 kHz). Insertion loss on the diplexer was 1.5 dB with the molded chokes, I should have wound them on FT50-77s....likely the insertion loss would go down a dB or so....

Similar e-probe to 300 kHz LPF to 75 kHz diplexer and mixer was used successfully on XND here over most of the winter.  The e-probe usually  did better than the EWE.  Only towards end of LF season did the EWE start to work better than the e-probe on XND for 75 kHz...

Pretty tough here in Alaska - the relatively weak signal level over the pole the CW read message was "difficult" - however the key down tuning and VVV de SAQ was ok. SMPSU noise didnt help
