Hello Andy, this is Bill WD8ARZ in middle TN. Qsl on the lightening ...
have observed the same here. There was so much lightening I even went
out to my mobile and took off the HiQ HF antenna I had left on the
vehicle the other day. That is rare. Just bought a home here, so I guess
I need to look at what it will take to protect the home and ham system
from near by strikes. Operating the mobile using Kenwood's SkyCommand
makes it easy and safe to operate hf from my ht with out worrying about
the base station system during lightening .... when no lightening, base
station sure has the range to walk as far as one likes using the ht for
hf pedestrian mobile operations .... 73 from Bill / WD8ARZ

... since posting the above link, have purchase the TS-710AG to use
with my TH-D7AG HT for SkyCommand operation. Lots of fun to operate hf
from the ht while taking a walk ....
