[Lowfer] Successful Antennas 137 Khz With Near-Field Issues

David,

During the time that I was active with my WD2XES license, I used a loop
antenna for transmitting. I have a fairly narrow back yard, with a ton
of oak trees behind it. With overhanging branches and the proximity of
the house, I felt that the environmental losses with a "Marconi" type of
antenna would be high.

A description of the antenna may be seen at:

In 2008, we had a major ice storm that caused some loss of height, but
no big change in performance was noted. Best DX over the years that I
ran it was Russia. European reports were common when running QRSS30 or
slower, or the text-based WOLF mode.

The antenna is still there, and I have used it on 630m with decent
results. Operation on 2200m is no longer possible, due to proximity to
PLC-carrying power lines that were present for the 13 years that I ran
WD2XES at 1 watt ERP.
