Mike & All: Lower temps have WM coming in well in daylight today. Setup
was my NW EWE antenna to a 9th order Butterworth LPF on
the input of a 2N3904, a VE7BPO 530 kHz NDB LPF on output of the 2N3904
preamp direct to the FT-817 on 185.30 kHz dial frequency, no
rx converter used.

QRSS60 Capture by photo showing about 5dB above peak noise

QRSS screen capture but with a "whoops" at the right side where I bumped the
dial scale trying to get the pointer in place
in the prior image...

And a QRSS30 image that was done into sundown time frame with day/night
transition fade...

At this point I am fairly confident the FT-817 can make for a reasonable LF
receiver given how it responds to

a preamp with a 5dB range NF. Time for me to build a 2dB NF LF preamp and
see what difference is noted. My optimized
MF/LF converter is likely 4~5 dB better than the FT-817 in sensitivity. But
an LPF+preamp into the FT-817 appears to be not all that bad
of a receiving setup....
