Mike &All : Perhaps a few dB better SNR today. Cold front passed through
last night so perhaps less thermal noise
being generated by the air dielectric between the variable conducting ground
and D-layer boundaries between us. Solar and geomag has been rather tame
last 24 hrs.
Likely some local effects on both ends of the path as well, but measuring
them would be a bit of a challenge...
If you had a best TX return loss in the 30~40dB range (.1 to .01 pecent
reflected power) and could rotate your TX loop and plot azimuth heading vs
return loss
there is a chance of being able to attribute noticeable changes in the
return loss and heading information to local environment objects.
Obviously it would be much easier to do that at UHF or microwave range,
where 3 dB beam width resolution is much (much) narrower
and everything else is easier to manage...
Perhaps an interesting thought experiment...

Seeing an occasional -78 SNR for peak background noise and occassion -70 SNR
for WM...
