Andy, what is the ground at the bottom of the vertical portion of your antenna? Is it a lawn or rough yard or…? The ground current
is concentrated there, and even a simple radial system could make a huge difference. Dig an “X” trench centred under the vertical
portion of your antenna and about 6 to 8 inches deep. Put in a few inches of kitty litter, then lay down your bare wire radials, which
all join in the middle of the “X”, then cover them with another few inches of the kitty litter, then backfill the trenches. Try to get each
branch as long as you can, but even short radials are better than just ground rods.
