David,

I'll run some numbers for VLF power amplifier lightning protection
components for your location and cable. I have models for lightning and soil
in your area.

What is the cable depth?

Question for the many people here smarter than me:
The "antenna" I hope to try on 8 KC is
about 2.2 miles of insulated. buried multi-strand cable, grounded on the far
end. It will be fed unbalanced with a yet-to-be-determined matching
network.

We get storms here in NE Texas with nasty lightening. Any strike even
remotely close to this cable is going to set-up some hefty surge currents in
it. Any recommendations of how best to protect the amp from these?
Thanks.
