[Lowfer] "1000 W" Audio Amplifiers

I'm looking around for a high power audio amp
for some work at 8 KC.
I searched "audio amplifier 1000W" on Ebay,
and what I got was a lot of car amplifiers that
claim "1000W."  But they have no heat sinks
and 1000W out at 12 VDC we'd be talking
near 100 amps.  I don't think I believe these
things are "1000W."    Anyone know what
they're talking about?  And where one might
find a 300+W audio amp that costs less
than a house payment?
