With a few days of icy weather looming, I was hopeful of a good night at
the watering hole for my first listening session there since the new year.
Thus far, it's not panning out as hoped.
Wednesday afternoon's SIW transition from WSPR15 to QRSS went off OK,
although it was about 5 minutes behind schedule. Thursday's transition,
however, did not take place until the QRSS transmission ended about 4:15
PM Central. Although the QRSS signal was solid copy, the WSPR carrier
seemed broken...on a few minutes, absent for several. I did finally get
one decode this evening in the 0200 time slot, but that's the only one so
far. Since that time, the carrier has been absent quite a lot of the time.
As for other denizens of the watering hole, I did manage to get a broken
but recognizable "AG" from TAG between 9:15 and 9:30. By midnight, the
QRSS ID of WM was recognizable a few times, and around 1 AM there were
hints of the graphical ID as well. No sign of SJ at all yet tonight,
though.
The QRN is slightly lower than it was during last night's EAR marathon,
and over an S-unit lower than my last watering hole venture in December,
so that doesn't seem to account for the disappointing results up to now.
We'll see if propagation gets any better during the wee hours.
