Use plain text to keep the over-all size down.

I ran a side-by-side test years ago and found that a line of text with 
header data was about1KB, the same line in HTML was 100-110KB.

I find the list chokes about 40KB or so, so I crop an image to only the 
important parts, then convert it to as small as possible to keep detail, 
then minimal text to get the point across and can usually get them through 
with just a few KB of data.
