[Lowfer] 486 KC Christmas Night

Took my Cushman CE-24 Selective Level Meter and
the little Palomar loop out to the middle of the
train yard here in EM-13, N.E. of Dallas, Texas,
which has no electrical lines and *used* to be
radio quiet, but it was noisy as anywhere tonight.
At 0105-0115 UTC, the 486 carrier was fading up
and easy aural copy. Video here:
NOTE: A Selective Level Meter does not "zero beat"
a signal at the displayed freq. It's offset by
about 1.5 KC to allow the "tone" to appear in the
narrow filter passband to be measured at the
displayed freq.

I moved to another spot hoping for less noise. It
was no better, but the signal had faded way up and
was nearly at the point of copying modulation but
at 0129 UTC, the carrier keyed off-and-on a couple
of times, then left the air. May do better next
year. Got to find a new "quiet" location.
