Hello Paul,
I look forward to your being QRV on the LF/MF bands. I'm pretty
confident that a more "extreme" mode like QRSS30 would span the
continent even under less-than-idea conditions - but QRSS10 (or QRSS3)
should be do-able on a more typical, deep-winter evening/night.
I've been switching over to 630 during some of the local evenings (about
0100-0500Z) to both WSPR and monitor for JT-9 contacts, but I try to be
on 2200 meters the rest of the time. I have the Morse ID in the WSPR
program configured to ID every 4 minutes so about half of the WSPR
transmissions will end with my callsign at about 20WPM at a few seconds
before the top of the even minute.
Over the past couple of days there has been some freezing fog that keeps
knocking my antenna system out of tune so there are hours at a time that
my signal will be poor before I notice this and given the entire antenna
system a shake and readjust the variometer.
At present I'm using a computer and FT-817 to produce the transmit
signals, but I expect a QRP Labs U3S to arrive in the next week or three
and this will be GPS-locked and dedicated to 630 and 2200 meters. At
some point I hope to configure it to automatically switch between the
two bands - but that will be some time down the road.
73,
Clint

P.S. I believe that I may have worked you many years ago (maybe 1990)
on 2m SSB or CW when I lived in FN10: IIRC you were running a pair of
4CX250s at nearly 1kW TPO - if that *was* you!
