Agreed. I tried the software today with just random receiver noise for
input, and it continued to test for possible carriers all over the place
even with the tolerance set to less than 1 Hz, so that probably does not
account for the eventual success last night. The successful decodes last
night occurred roughly around the same time that signals seemed to peak the
night before.
Looking back at the night before, noise was typically S3 or less with Preamp
1 on. Last night it was up to S9+40 with preamps off. That's 76 dB just
from what's shown on the meter alone, plus whatever gain Preamp 1 has at
2200m.
It's a real testament to the robustness of the WOLF technique.
Won't be able to monitor tonight, but will be in a position to do so again
later in the week. Would still be interested in some daytime attempts
before Andy fires up, if that would be feasible at some point.
