[Lowfer] WOLF tonight

JR,
450 watts out of the transmitter. That's my default "1 watt ERP" at this
point. We'll fight our way through the EIRP business when and if that
ever materializes.
I don't think that the transformer is running warm. It's in an enclosed
box, which has seemed to be cool on the outside. Will have to pull the
cover off the next time, and see what I feel by hand. There's a small
fan on the center inductor in the LPF when WOLF is running -- that does
get a little warm.
On a similar topic, for the 150 watt Class D Maine rig, I ditched the
output transformer, and am running a "W1JR" type balun with RG-58 on a
240-77 core. The amp is running in voltage-mode, with a bifilar-wound
drain choke. The goal was to be able to run 137 and 475 kHz without any
switching other than the output low pass filters. Works nicely, about
90% efficiency. I tried your 1:1 balun on the VNA2180 analyzer...think
it would have been OK in the rig, but the W1JR balun had better
end-to-end reactance at 137 kHz, and seemed a better choice for a 50 Ohm
system. So far, so good.
