It took an hour and 15 minutes, the amount of time covered in the attached
capture, to get nicely acceptable captures of MLS. The past month and a half
or so, there have been loud carriers nearby. A strong pair about 50 Hz up
were joined by a couple more about 50 Hz below. In addition to depressing
the receiver's gain through AGC action, the beat notes produced lots of
distortion products in the audio chain external to the receiver, which
started showing up in the Argo window!
None of those lines were present as RF where they show in the waterfall,
fortunately, so if I could get rid of at least some of the real RF sources,
the distortion products might also go away. It took a lot of playing with
the dual passband shift, aided by a couple more Argo windows running QRSS3
and NDB modes to guide what I was doing without also depressing the signal,
but I finally found a good compromise. Then QSB set in, so I wasn't sure
for a while longer whether it worked.
Fortunately, it did. The last capture here even showed up nicely in QRSS30
Normal speed.
(Sorry, I meant to post this one in the wee hours of the morning, but I
literally fell asleep at the keyboard, and then later in the morning got
busy with all today's captures.)
