[Lowfer] A History of MedFers

I’ve been scouring the Internet looking for a history of MedFer beacons during their hey day before stations began to appear in the expanded band. 

I recall that many beacons were heard widely throughout the United States, but have no luck getting any specifics. Most of this was probably covered in the Lowdown, or the “Lowfer Letter” but my archives are long gone. 

Can anyone contribute some of the highlights? 

More importantly, are any MedFer beacons still active today?
