[Lowfer] eLoran test July 29 - Aug 15

Has anyone tried receiving the eLoran test signal running this week and
next? I have an old (1990) handheld GPS and I was trying to see if I could
get a location off of it. When I manually select GRI 8970 I get a good
lock on the M and X signals (98 out of 100) but never get a valid location.

This receiver does not give a lot of troubleshooting help beyond signal
strength and some ratios indicating some sort of nav lock, but it comes up
with a random lat/long several hundred miles from my location in WV, then
the lat/long never changes and it continues to display a "check status"
message.

I suspect that it is confused because from what I understand both the M and
X signals come from Wildwood, NJ instead of their old locations in the
Great Lakes for that GRI. I'm wondering how it could work at all with both
signals coming from the same tower.

Has anyone else tried to use that signal? Is it a matter of changing some
timing settings, or is the eLoran signal just plain incompatible with these
old receivers? I'm curious if anyone else has any luck with it.

Thanks - Craig, N6IO
