: yeah my 249 is sort of fussy too, in a way that my 269 is not. I just
: figured it's the crummy SO-239 with a phenolic insulator.
Are you having problems with the meter jumping and holding at odd places?
I found two sources of that. One, static on the screen, I thought of
covering mine with metal mesh. Haven't gone beyond thinking about it, but
wiping the unit down helped.
The BIGGEST problem which caused erratic readings, is, of all things, DUST
between the cabinet halves and in the screw threads. It took a while to
figure that one out by noticing the erratic behavior coincided with holding
the case certain ways or squeezing it. Thorough cleaning and the mating
surfaces and carefully blowing out the threaded holes and blowing off the
screws fixed that.
I've had no problems with the connector and after the above fixes, the unit
is very stable and functional. Over-all, I am quite pleased with the unit.
The high-quality silver-Teflon connector is a good idea. Might look for
space for a parallel BNC as well.
