Garry & All: Good condx in daylight to SIW land today.

Perhaps a bit of serendipity involved, as the local power company left a notification on my door they had replaced

my old Westinghouse KWH meter with a new digital power meter. They did all the meters on the whole street, and apparently one or more of the

service drop connections to the meters had developed a corrosion diode junction action, as my background noise is several dB lower (two captures at -84 and one at -87 peak background noise) now at the watering hole.

I even see an improvement on 20 meters, where previously I would have an S2 background noise on my HF vertical with the radio's preamp "on"

is now S 1/2. I'm sure I will pay for this "demand meter" upgrade dearly, but it seems like I just picked up a considerable improvement in receive performance.

A silver lining to the utility bill storm cloud perhaps......

A bit of apple to orange comparison, but note the -73.5 background noise level on this SIW capture from a Nov 12, 2014 at the same QRSS60 normal rate... I'm accustomed to mid -70's peak background

noise levels at QRSS60, so this may be new territory for the upcoming LF season.
