Correct on all counts! -- unfortunately.

Actually, the slipping part has more to do with mud than ice. We only had
about 17" of snow here this winter (about an inch more than usual, but
nothing like you guys back east had to endure), yet its melting last week
saturated the soil around my building in a way I've never seen it do before.
It's solidifying a bit now, but for several days it would simply liquify
under the least pressure and turn into mud soup. Even the deer were not at
all sure-footed in that stuff...nor the armadillos, racoons, field mice, my
rat-catching fox, or the coyotes that left tracks out there.

Or the very BIG canid of whatever species that left prints right by the
door! It's twice the size of the adult coyote tracks. I'd like to hope
it's a big friendly domestic pet, but nobody within a mile of me owns a dog
at all, and this one apparently came up from the direction of the wildlife
area along the creek...so who can tell.

Last but not least, our local thief who has the franchise on 90+ percent of
the burglaries in this corner of the county, has indeed shown signs of
becoming more aggressive. He was arrested less than three weeks ago in
possession of yet more stolen property--and a gun on his person, and drugs
and paraphernalia. He's a convicted felon several times over, so if he's
carrying, he obviously no longer cares. And drugs on top of that is not a
good combination.

They do catch him, and they DO get convictions. And yet he gets probation
or neglibly short sentences--when they get around to trying him at all. A
repeat offender convicted felon caught with more stolen property and in
possession of a concealed firearm...kind of seems like he might find his
bond revoked, doesn't it? But no. Saturday afernoon I watched a pickup
with a four-wheeler in the back, both matching his, slowly cruise the county
roads past my farm.

Eventually the ground will be safe to tread in the dark, and I can always
watch out for wildlife, but I'm not likely to spend much time out there
after dark until I know this guy is definitely behind bars for a while.
