After my saying nice things about WSPR-X this morning, it had to go and make
a fibber out of me. Couldn't get it to work at all for a while, then later
it ran for two 15 minute time slots then just plain stopped dead. I gave up
for a while and watched HiFERs, then came back to WSPR later in the
afternoon. That time, when I returned from working outside, the waterfall
had continued to run but the background was all black. That one turned out
to be operator error, though...I left the receiver in CW mode.

Finally, after sunset, everything seemed to fall into place. The screen shot
I sent earlier of XRR and XES finally coming through was evidently a smidgen
too large for the reflector, but both have done nicely all evening long
since then. That first snag of XES started out barely visible on the
waterfall, but beefed up quite nicely during the 0000 time slot.

Still haven't seen Laurence yet as of last check. I switched to 630 m
WSPR-15 for about an hour to see if the Alaska path might be better there,
but I found too much activity in the WSPR-2 segment was messing up the
software's AGC action. (At 2200 m, the only signal in the WSPR-2 segment
was XND; largely unchanged from afternoon into evening, and would probably
have shown a higher SN if it weren't for a strong steady carrier about
137.498 kHz.)

Have been back at 2200 m since 0430, and am enroute to check on results. If
nobody new has shown up, I may switch to 1750 m QRSS for a while.

John
