In what I believe to be a first for me; I copied a complete ID sequence of SIW in daylight....
To the best I can recall, I have never copied " Any " lowFER signal during daylight here...
The capture is at QRSS-60, and I had just switched to QRSS-120 to see how long the
signal would stay.. The signal rose up at 10:23 am edst, and faded at 12:07 pm edst..
Lack of daytime reception has been mainly due to noise at my QTH... It is still noisy
as heck, and I have in the past few days discovered that my station ground is extremely
noisy.. evidenced by a strong " buzzing " in my speaker with the volume turned down...
dis-connect the ground, and the buzz goes away... I took a battery AM radio outside
and walked my radial system and can hear the noise on my radial field !! and that is
after dis-assembling my entire ground conections - - cleaning, - - and re-connecting..
My noise level dropped noticably after cleaning the grounds, and that is when I started
detecting noises that evidently were being masked by the corroded connections...
I also found out that I had a C-Media sound card that was horribly noisy itself ..
a very high noise floor.. I found this out after thinking ( due to the buzz ) that I had
blown my sound blaster card.. Trashing the C-Media card, and putting my Sound
Blaster back in, and using it on the input made a huge difference in decodes, and
software reception.. it has a spec'ed -120 dB noise floor.. Before discovering that my
Sound Blaster was still good, I had ordered another one.. I'm glad I did.. Once I
install it, and have 2 low noise cards working; I'm hoping to see a big improvement
here...
I'm not sure what to do about the noisy ground, as I don't know what, or where the
noise is coming from...Efforts will continue as always to fight the noise gremlins..
