> ... Not Test Equipment per se for most people (unless you were in my line of work as a CTP-II).....CEI 356 S/N-3 WJ Watkins Johnson, Very Rare, Collector Grade VLF Receiver.

For sale is this very rare, collector grade surveillance receiver from the cold-war era. Based on comments from an expert and well known WJ collector, there may have only been 4 of this model ever created back in 1967. This is S/N-3 and it is in very clean condition with absolutely no signs of any dust or dirt. I have verified it's electrical condition by performing some basic audible sensitivity tests and the receiver is still very sensitive and could easily hear my signal generators test signals at levels from -123 dBm to as low as -138 dBm depending on B.W. and tuned frequency.

The receiver has AM and FM modes, USB, LSB and a variable BFO. FM output and level control are on the back. This receiver covers from 1 kHz to 900 kHz and has 1 kHz, 6 kHz, 20 kHz, and 50 kHz I.F. bandwidths. It also features an antenna switch on the back where an antenna with a 50 ohm or 1000 ohm impedance can be selected. My tests were conducted using the 50 ohm position and a HP-3325 signal generator with 0-80 dB step attenuator.

The receiver still has it's last calibration sticker (from the late 80's) as well as two tamper indicators on the back which are both 100% in-tact indicating that it has not been opened up since it's last calibration. During testing I did notice a 120 Hz hum which is common for vintage receivers that need the power supply filter caps replaced (they dry up over the years). Every knob and function switch functioned well during my testing and without any issues. If I were to retain this receiver I would suggest spraying each of the pots, controls, and switches with a product like DeOxit to ensure no scratchiness. The front face is in very nice and clean condition with all lettering 100% perfect. The face does have some minor scuff marks here and there, most of them you have to look for. The top cover has a couple stains which I will try to remove with a damp rag and Windex and there is a scratch mark along the top cover running from left-to-right but it is not very serious. This
receiver was used in a lab environment and for this reason it was well looked after and will show signs of careful use. Will come with hard to find AC power cable and more pictures available. $1400.
