Thanks for the info JD: That is what I " Used to hear " before the ice / snow storm here..
A continuous carrier with a burst of " packet sounding " data transmitted at random
times... I had one close to 177 KHz that was 40dB over S-9, The power company came
here and replaced my old meter a while back with a new smart meter, and that carrier
went away !!
I read the plate on the new meter, and google'ed it, and discovered that it transmits in the
900 MHz range over the power lines.. I was still hearing several of the carriers on other
frequencies which most likely were from my neighbors meters.. After the winter storm;
the power company came thru the area repairing the damage, replacing poles, and meters,
and since then I have not heard - ANY - of the carriers on LF.. I suspected that they were
PLC meters " phoning home "... It's nice to " Not Hear " those anymore...
Now !! If only the constant 20 to 40dB over S-9 line buzz would go away.. Been working
with them on that one for a few months now... not looking likely that it will be going away..
