Apparently propagation was down from MP at the time.  The same settings that 
were ample for
SIW were not adequate for MP at mid-afternoon.  Boosting the drive to the 
audio clipper about 20 minutes into this capture brought MP up to viewable 
levels, and then it CONTINUED to improve for the remaining 2 hours and 25 
minutes thereafter (no further change in settings).

I'm pleased that the temperature in the building finally stabilized, too. 
Both the earlier SIW capture and this one of MP were taken using Old Drifty 
(Kenwood R-5000 #3), as I have grown rather tired of having to deal with the 
much more stable CR-1 _plus_ the upconverter, a 24 volt source for the 
upconverter, and the necessary LPF...and still having the CR-1's overly 
broad roofing filter allowing everything under the sun (including, 
apparently, the upconverter LO bleed-through) to affect the AGC action. 
It's adequate for HF, but very tedious to use at LF, despite the great 
frequency stability.
