Garry: Indeed, quite a bit of racket going on in SE Texas right now. The 
EZNEC says the EWE is about 6dB down 90 degrees off axis and 10 dB down at 
135 degrees off axis.
At 180 degrees the F/B is more like 8~9 dB at 185 kHz, so the front-to-side 
around 135 degrees off axis is actually a better noise management resource 
on the LF EWE antenna

Wet wx usually helps lower the line noise here more than the added H2O 
attenuation....
