I thought I would keep this short, so here's the basics..I re-oriented
power cords, and
antenna wires inside to minimize noise as much as possible.. I have found myself
coupling to the AC wiring and increasing noise.. Outside, I
disconnected, cleaned, and
reconnected my grounding wires and I was a bit surprised at how big a difference
that made to my noise level.. Those wires have been there a few years,
and that was
a much needed effort that really paid off..
I set audio into SpecLab for a baseline noise of -65dB.. No special
reason, that's just
the value I chose, and adjusted settings for.. I had the rig in CW
with 2.4 KHz BW,
NB turned On.. The NB really helps with static bursts on the TS450S.. I had the
IF Shift slightly on the high side to help minimize low frequency noise..
I used SpecLabs programmable filter, set for 2400 BW, and centered at 1200 Hz..
The main use of the filter is the DeNoiser, and the Auto-Notch
filtering.. I also use
Black Box #1 for the Hard Limiter - Clipper stage, and set for an
average of 7dB ..
The AGC of both Black Boxes are set to fast, and used for level
adjustment only..
That's it for the setup..

The overall peak signal of WH2XIL hit -26dB at 05:13 UTC.. Warren was CW copy
audible quite a few times thru the night.. I did not hear any of the
CW Id sequences,
but probably would have in a narrow BW, AND, if I had been
specifically listening for them..
Distance to WH2XIL is 821 miles ..

The overall peak signal of WG2XNI hit -52dB at 00:50 UTC.. It is very
easy to see
when Mark started transmitting.. An " XNI " sequence came thru, and you can see
the frequency drift as the Osc. was warming up.. He then faded for a
couple of hours
before rising out of the noise for 2 more hours until he shut down..
Distance to WG2XNI is 1182 miles ..
73 for now:
