[Lowfer] Lowfers Go Mainstream

Flipping through a Christmas catalog today from "Hammacher Schlemmer", I
found a listing for the "Longwave Shortwave Radio". Any mention of
longwave radio catches my eye, so I read the description:

"Unlike typical shortwave radios, this is the model that also receives
longwave broadcasts. Operating at 100-519kHz, just below the AM band,
longwave signals are used by those interested in low-frequency
experimental radio (LowFER) communications as as ITU Region 1
broadcasters in Europe".

I had a nice laugh. How wonderful to see mentions of the LowFER
community in mainstream publications, after living through the
pioneering days of the hobby in the early 1980s. For those of us who
remember Vince Pinto, and things like the Low Frequency Scrapbook, it
seems strange indeed.

Best of the holidays to all.
