Dropbox works very well as a convenient place to put screen grabs etc.
Once you have Dropbox installed and it's default folder created, i.e.
\dropbox\photos you can easily create additonal folders within such as
\dropbox\photos\lowfer in which you can create additional folders and so
on.
You can then post a link to one of your dropbox folders or sub folders
or a specific file. For example, I have started to take a more serious
interest in listening for the various lowfers and I have created on
dropbox called lowfer within my photos folder. This link takes you there:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/0ltkw1tumnl9mhh/AAADShMBDHx457zDNBeLPh3_a?dl=0
When you log into dropbox and view your photos folder you will see
whatever files and folders you have. If you put your cursor over a photo
or folder it will "highlight" and on the right side you will see
"Share" If you click on "Share" you will be given two opens one of
which is to "Send Link". Click on "Send Link" and a pop up will display
a url to that file of folder which you can copy and paste in an email or
your web browser and it in turn will take you directly to that file of
folder. That is how I got the above noted url for my dropbox lowfer folder.
If you view my dropbox lowfer folder you will see a subfolder called
archive which is were I will be archiving grabs of interest. You can
open that folder and view what it contains. At this post it contains
only one screen grab for MP.
This is the url which would take you directly to the archive folder:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/0ltkw1tumnl9mhh/AACTk9eXA6bK_rLIT5pHU7DSa/archive?dl=0
and this is the url which would take you directly to the MP screen grab:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/0ltkw1tumnl9mhh/AACTk9eXA6bK_rLIT5pHU7DSa/archive?dl=0#lh:null-MP_137_7844_20141112_1817.jpg
You can also place any other file type you like in your folders even
though it may start out in a folder with a name like photos. In fact,
your dropbox folder is just the root of your folder structure, you
create additional folders there as well, for example \dropbox\text or
\dropbox\documents. It is really just folder like any other except that
it is shared over the net on a remote server.
Now, it gets even better. If you have for example two or more computers,
you can install dropbox on all of them and Dropbox will synchronize your
entire dropbox folder on all of your computers. Add a file on one
computer, it will get put on your other computer(s). Create a new
folder, it will get created on your other computers(s). Delete a file on
one computer and it will get deleted on your other computer(s). Only you
can edit (create/delete) files and folders on your dropbox account.
Others viewing your folders and files on the net are read only.
Sorry for being long winded. I hope that all makes sense.
Oh, and dropbox is not the only such service, there are others. It just
happens that I have been using dropbox for some time and quite like the
way it works. There is even a version for use with Linux if you prefer
that platform.
