Hi all: Projects take me a long time to get around to, and to finish when started.. The Tree-Tenna
experiment has not been a big winner yet, Mostly because of the crude way I am using it..
When I do finally get around to placing a ground rod at the tree, and mounting the Isolation
Transformer at the tree, I'm positive that better results will be seen.. And as other comments have
stated; when the sap begins to flow in the tree, conductivity will increase, and so should performance..
Here is a dropbox link to a not very impressive reception of EAR over the past couple of nights..
Reception was very brief, and right at both of our sunrise times since J.B. is due North of me..
I was about to give up on the experiment, but convinced myself to wind the new Transformer, and it
was the difference between nights of nothing, and finally reception.. I have used the Tree-Tenna with
the new Transformer only one night so far, and just a couple of quick observations.. With the high
Primary side Inductance, it seems to " hear " better around 2200 meters, and down.. Grounding the
160 Dipole to earth has mixed results.. Sometimes it helps, and sometimes it hurts, mostly depending
on the band I am using it on.. It does receive on 630 meters, but performance is noticably down..
I'm sure that ALL these observations will change IF ! I ever get the Transformer connected at the base
of the tree, and use coax feed back to the shack, and put another Transformer on the shack end too..
*** Not to forget to mention this also.. After connecting the transformer, I looked for MP during the
evening, and an " M " came thru weakly, then faded out.. I think I will try to tune it for 2200 meters
this afternoon, and unless the TV noise kills my reception, I'll see how it does down there..
